Remington Model 1858 New Model Army Revolver, Martially Marked
   -Has 1863 modifications


-44 Cal, 6 round capacity
-production year 1864
-8” bbl, manufacturer remaining visible stamp shows "E.Remi"
-cylinder in good condition, minimal chamber rust, some exterior pitting;
   has safety notches.
-bore has discernible rifling, exterior of barrel has some pitting
-tight crisp action
-faint cartouche on exterior left grip and only the boxed outline is discernable.
-some pitting on barrel & cylinder
-some light bluing remains but most is brown

-SN# 107851:
   -stamped on underside of barrel near frame
   -stamped on frame near bottom of left grip

Martially Marked
-sub-inspectors marks:
  "S":        (2) S's Stamped by "Trigger & Stop Spring" screw
  "S":        stamped on trigger guard near screw hole
  "7851":   stamped on trigger guard tab
  "T":        stamped to left of mainspring base
  "U":        on trigger guard
  "H":        right side of barrel near frame
  "W":       left side of frame near hammer screw
  "M":       left side of loading lever
   
1863 modifications were:
-In 1863, the 1858 had "Safety Slots" milled between chambers on the cylinder. The milled slot positively secured the hammer between chambers for safe carry by eliminating the risk of an accidental discharge if the gun was dropped or the hammer struck.
-had cylinder pin modification to prevent the pin from falling out during reload.
